Skiing and remote working

29/04/2021

We travelled to enjoy sunny spring skiing in Äkäslompolo in the end of April. Unfortunately, we didn't have no vacation, but luckily there were a possibility to work remotely.

In April the sun shines for a long day and temperatures during the day are on the plus side and at night could be a little frosty. Therefore, the skiing conditions could be great. Before the travel I did gardening works in southern Finland and at the same time there was the most beautiful springtime and lot of snow in the northern Finland.

The end of April was very warm in this year. There were up to fifteen degrees during the day and there were some plus degrees during the night as well. The ski machine did the skiing trails to great conditions every day until the end of the April. Our ski schedule was only after the working days. The sun glowed warmly even in the evenings and softened the skiing trails throughout the day. But this didn't bother us, we fully enjoyed the opportunity to ski.

The first ski trip we did via Velhonkota (Wizard hut) to Lake Tunturijärvi and on the second trip we did via Lake Luosujärvi to Tunturijärvi. The skis slid very good, and the slightly softened trails did not slow down our skiing. We packed lot of drinks and it was really needed almost this kind "hot" weather.

Luckily there was a free weekend time, when we able to go skiing early in the morning time, too. Towards the first of May, the weather cooled, and the skis got better slides after cooler nights. At that time, the ski conditions became amazing and slide even too fast. For these slippery routes we chose the Kotamaja route and back via Kesängin Keidas. On the second time we continued from Kotajama to the Pyhätunturi Route. Skiing was fast and enjoyable.

On the Pyhä tunturi route, also the snake had come to sunbathe on the skiing trail. Because I'm very afraid of snakes, I didn't dare to dig out the camera. I just continued skiing even faster. Afterwards I regretted the that I should had to take a picture of that snake.

Lake Äkäslompolo was still frozen when we arrived to Äkäslompolo, but during the warm days the ice started to melt and before the First of May there were no more changes to go to the Lake. I was just on the last evening on the ice taking pictures and flying with drone before the Lake routes were closed. I photographed the evening sun shined magnificently beautifully late in the evening.

We skied for the last time on the First of May and the weather was the best for skiing. We checked the weather forecasts and found that the very good skiing weather will continue for at least another week. It was annoying to pack skis in a car and left the excellent ski trails behind.
