Winter smells on Fells /Jogging and Nordic walking in October
Suddenly, autumn holidays and remote working turned to a winter holiday and something very important was missing.
We arrived in Äkäslompolo to spend holidays, but we started the first two days with remote working. My husband and I we both have done remote working in Äkäslompolo and we have found it working very well, especially from a technical point of view. The laptop connection has worked well and with Skype has been able to manage the meetings without any problems. At the end of the working day, it has been a big surprise when the laptops are closed and when you go out and you'll notice that you are in the middle of Seven Fells' village. From the work mood is a huge leap into the beauty of nature without any transition rites like as sit in traffic jams. The mind or head need some time to get used to this kind of changes.
After the working day we started Nordic Walking up to Isometsä and Lämpökolmonen, then through Varkaankuru and through Röhkömukka back to the village. Even though we had skied Isometsä up several times during our skiing holidays, the steepness of it surprised us with the Nordic sticks.
I had dreamed earlier how nice it would be to end the working day by jogging in Äkäslompolo. Now this wish came true. We also had planned mountain biking for the holidays. Unfortunately, we have had only an autumn vacation in our plans beforehand. For Friday night was forecasted snow, which then happened. We woke up to a full winter on Saturday morning, there was snow over 20 centimeters and the weather was quite cold. In the other story I will tell you more about winter mountain biking, and I will still stay for a moment in Nordic walking.
On the very last day of the holidays, we walked again towards Isometsä and Lämpökolmonen by the Nordic sticks. We had seen some messages from the Ylläs Skiing Trail Service that there are already trails for skiing. Oh no, we hadn't packed our skis with. We had an annoying setback! We had no ideas in advance that winter would surprise us in the middle of October.
In the jogging route we met several happy skiers and they were excited about the joy of first snow skiing. We just pushed our sticks forward sadly. We promised ourselves that next fall we would have skis with us, whether snow is forecasted or not. For the second time we don't mess with skis, definitely!
