In recent years we have been favored travelling by train because of a comfort and a climate change reasons. We are used to spend our time much better in the train than in the car, and we have tried to avoid more and more flying.

In Äkäslompolo we have enjoyed physical and outdoor activities daily and we often have wanted to enjoy the last day activities, too. Therefore, twelve hours drive time have not been suitable for us and it would not be safe as tired.

Before traveling, we are trying to get all work done so we do not need to worry about work duties on holidays. This means some tiredness before the journey can start. The night train from Helsinki-Pasila to Kolari lasts approx. 14-15 hours, so there is time to rest well and get rid of the work life. Especially when we are travelling back home, the rest hours are luxurious after the activity days.

To Kolari by train has not been able to travel every day and in that case, we have been travelled first to Rovaniemi and from there to Äkäslompolo. This also works, but hopefully the number of passengers on Kolari railways station would increase, and it would bring even more train connections directly to Kolari. We have heard that there will more connections in the coming year 2020 and this is a very good news!

This year autumn holiday travel was made to Kolari by night train again. Some white snow waited us in Kolari, and our autumn holiday changed to a winter holiday. The mood transformation is enormous when the journey has begun from Helsinki-Pasila railways station in a rain and ended to completely different and beautiful view with pure snow. This is what has happened many times and which make us very happy. We are looking forward to the next train travel to Kolari.
